A Little Kindle Nit-picking
A couple things to add to the “anti-kindle” list though I still LOVE the Kindle. Like the title says, I’m just nit-picking here:
- Don’t feel comfortable reading it in bed before going to sleep as I usually have just put lotion on my hands and I don’t want to “grease” up the electronics. I find myself sticking to reading paper periodicals instead.
- I was reading the “The New York Times - Latest News” blog on my Kindle and in the middle of reading it a new “edition” of the blog appeared and as I was off following a link from a story when I hit the “back” button to return to my original NYT story, it was gone, replaced by the newer stories. This was very annoying. I called Amazon’s Kindle help desk to find the story I was reading previously, but it was gone and the only way to keep this from happening is to turn off the “Whispernet.” But with that turned off, I couldn’t follow any links in a story I was trying to read. I tried searching for the story I was reading at NYT online in their blogs section and th web in general, but must not have hit the right keywords as I just couldn’t find the story. Hmmm, perhaps I should have tried Amazon “Ask Kindle NowNow” prototype service to help me find the article?
Print Reading List
- Seattle Times, entire May 7th edition (PRINT) with breakfast
Approximate print reading time: 45 minutes
Kindle Reading List
- Various news blogs
Approximate Kindle reading time: 1 hour
Online Reading List
- Nothing yet
I think it is becoming safe to say that the Kindle is replacing my online news and blog reading. It’s much more convenient and comfortable to do so from my sofa or kitchen island (though I do have a computer in the kitchen) and I find it great ot just pick it up and read a story or two when the kids “let” me.
