Food for Thought and then some
I can’t believe that I regularly find myself reading about rising food prices and increases in the number of people globally who cannot afford food and resort to eating mud cookies or sorghum soup for dinner. And here in the US we are concerned with converting our corn to bio-diesel instead of leaving it for food causing food prices globally to go up? This makes no sense since as I keep reading that the amount of energy required to produce bio-diesel from corn is so much greater than relying on oil AND the amount of carbon produced by the process is much greater as well. Bio-diesel makes absolutely no sense in any context but I guess it makes some people with narrow minds feel better somehow. Hybrid energy seems to make so much more sense, especially for vehicles. And, if my HOA allowed it and I knew I would live in my current home for a long time to have the investment pay off, I would have solar panels on my roof for sure. How we treat our environment always comes down to economics and whether or not we can afford to follow our conscience or not. At least I compost and recycle everything I can, including a lot of food scraps. My regular trash cans isn’t even full every week anymore.
I wonder how the global food shortage will turn out and continue to be grateful that I was born into a crib in the USA with good parents who were able to provide well for their children. I hope to do the same for my children and can’t image how I would feel were I not able to adequately feed my children. If I trusted more charities, I wish I could do more for the hungry children in the world but will have to settle for making sure that my two children have what they need and continue helping with local charities in my community.
Kindle Observations
I love my Kindle, but I do have a couple picky things that I would change:
- Slight glare on the screen if held at the wrong angle
- Keep hitting the page forward button accidentally
- Can’t manage subscriptions from Kindle only online at Amazon.com
- Books with graphics shouldn’t even be attempted on the Kindle. They shouldn’t even have Kindle versions or should at least come with a warning. I am reading “I Am America (And So Can You!)” by Stephen Colbert and it has graphics, none of which I can make out.
