First let me say, I am so jealous that you are in Cancun. In 20 months I have yet to have a completely child free day let alone a whole vacation. It's also been a long while since I've gone on a business function with my husband, but I do know exactly what you are talking about. It's a hodge-podge of women forced to get to know each other and trying to find common threads of interest or life experiences. Sometimes it's a pleasant gathering and sometimes there's just no connection and you pray the moment ends quickly so you can go to your spa treatment or back to your room for a nice coffee and a book.

And yes, I'm in agreement that spouses do matter and have a slight influence on how one's significant other is viewed in the corporate world.
