Raising my children bilingually

A Dozen Days

I’ve kept up with this blog for 12 days straight- no skipping yet. That’s a dozen days of my reading habits chronicled and other details shared. I am sure that my reading habits have been somewhat affected by blogging, but not too significantly. The time I spend on the computer these days would most likely have been spent scrapbooking, not reading I am guessing. Something always has to give. And the fact that I have been aware of my reading time hasn’t made me read more- at least not too much.

Here’s an interesting article from The Washington Post that the Seattle Time printed today for parents of multiple children, Statistics don’t lie: Firstborns do get more time with parents. I have been very aware that the first born gets way more attention and more coaching and the second child is left to figure things out more on her own. I try to be equitable with my time, but it’s not easy. I was not surprised that the article ended with the following thought, “Why parents spend less time with children as a family ages wasn’t studied, but Price offered some reasons, including fatigue, age and a waning novelty.” Novelty definitely has a lot to do with it for me I am ashamed, but truthful to admit. Despite the reduced one-on-one time spent with the second child, I do make a concerted effort to make sure that my second child has the birth and first year scrapbooks just like the first one and the baby book is indeed equally filled out meticulously with all the firsts. It’s not easy finding the time to document the second child, but it is possible once you set your mind to do it and make it a priority.
