Where’s this all going?
First I start a blog, then I start cataloging my entire library at LibraryThing.com, all the while I have a stack of books to read, the newspaper and weekly magazines keep coming, the garden needs weeding, my two toddlers need me often for play, food and diapers and then my husband likes a little attention occasionally too. I try to run an orderly household and straighten continuously. I don’t have to do the cleaning, but do everything else. I also have a second blog idea in the works that I haven’t yet set up which will be all about gardening which is my other passion and needs chronicling. Oh, and there are always phone calls and emails to return. After all, I am planning what is essentially a family reunion for my and my husband’s entire families to celebrate A’s baptism in April. This will be in VA and I live in WA.
So, where’s this all going? Obviously the family comes first and then I’m hoping once I get everything set up with the blogs things will run smoothly from there. And then once the Kindle arrives, I can start to look at any changes to reading habits after the newness factor wears off of course. Now that I am new to a lot of this stuff, my next “fear” is what happens when people actually start to interact with me? I think I’ll keep my interactions to a minimum right now to limit this “problem” coming back at me. Speaking of interacting online, let me share a little embarrassing glimpse into my past. Back in 1989 when I was a freshman in college at Drew University, everyone received a DEC laptop computer (ha ha, weighed a ton and to even call it portable was a stretch) a modem and a phone. I, along with my roommate, became hooked on chatting on BITNET on the Bitnet Relay. Wow, brings back memories, “Relay@Orion” was how I connected and my “nick” was “Kass” which is Estonian for “cat.” These chat rooms were actually how I learned to type quickly because if you didn’t type fast enough nor hit <enter> quickly enough, the conversation moved ahead and left your comment hanging there looking stupid for now being out of context because it was late. I even dated a guy I met on the relay for awhile which ended very oddly. But that is a story for another time.
Finally, I updated my blog theme to show 3 columns as I thought the LibraryThing widget that shows random books from my library was kind of cool. Enjoy!
