A Domain of My Own

I may not have mentioned that I am a news junkie. I love current events which you may notice by my reading preferences. Between the online blogs, newspaper, news magazines and the news network channels I watch while on the treadmill at the gym 3 times a week, I have a rough idea of what’s going on in our country. I would say the world, but the US media does a very poor job of covering the world. I rely on blogs for that, but then again, I only have some much “bandwidth” as to what I can process anyway. I’m sure that once I have this blog further along in development, I’ll have a list of links available as to where I get my news. Big plans, but only little chunks of time to carry them out.

Daily Kindle Meditations

As I think ahead to how I plan to use my Kindle when it finally arrives, one disappointment will be that I will still have to rely on paperback books while on vacation in Cancun in April. I just can’t see leaving my Kindle tucked under my towel and going for a dip in the pool whereas that is precisely what I plan to do with a paperback. I’m also not too concerned about the condensation from my umbrella drink dripping on my paperback nor do I have to be overly concerned with sunscreen ruining the paperback. Some situations just call for low tech.

A Domain of My Own

I had an idea, I wrote the first blog entry, came up with a title and now on Day 2, I have a domain. I couldn’t have been more surprised that my blog name was still available as a .com domain. I thought all .coms that spelled anything (even some that don’t spell anything) were long gone. I guess I actually had an original thought. Stay tuned, it might happen again!

Today’s Reading List

•Seattle Times, entire March 13th issue (PRINT)
•US News & World Report, March 17th issue (PRINT)

Approximate reading time: 2 hours

I’m having a difficult time accounting for the time I spend reading online. One could argue that just by being online I am obviously reading something. But for the purposes of how the Kindle will change my reading habits, that is more difficult to gauge. Here are my thoughts as to impact…

Email: unchanged, Kindle doesn’t do email though it will be interesting to see if I unsubscribe from news alerts services. My guess is no.

Blogs: Some I read are not supported by the Kindle, though we’ll see if those that are will be replaced based on my information gathering needs being met.

Current time spent online in a given day is probably 1-2 hours, though broken up into 15 minute chunks of time.
